Kristallbrunnen

The idea for the design of the fountain derives from Mayor Hans Ledolter himself: The crystal from the local Rax rock stands out to symbolise the crystal-clear spring water available in Reichenau.
Gerald Mader, born in Reichenau and commissioner of the Riedel Company was responsible for the realisation and technical development of the idea. His company also produced the glass plates which were adhered to the 80 centimeter and 2 meter-high crystal shapes.

When the new design for the Erlangerplatz was being discussed, the desire was implanted to install a fountain. The official reopening took place on 5 October 2003, and the honourable guests included statesmen from Lower Austria and Vienna, Erwin Pröll and Viennas mayor, Michael Häupl.
Although the Kristallbrunnen stands for the first-class quality of Reichenaus spring water, the water that splashes between the rocks and crystals is not drinking water. It would have been both costly and a waste to constantly pump fresh water. But the thirsty are also cared for. Right next door to the Kristallbrunnen there is a drinking fountain, including a drinking bowl for four-legged visitors.
